Rather unsurprisingly, Mansfield Town were the first club to announce a summer signing yesterday with the arrival of former Crewe striker Jordan Bowery.
The Stags are often at the forefront of League Two’s major transfer business and they were the first to announce a significant capture by announcing Bowery, son of former Nottingham Forest striker Bert, following his release from MK Dons. In past seasons, the Stags have spent well and although chairman John Radford is advocating a salary cap, they appear to be looking to take early advantage of the current crisis by snapping up talent.
The 28-year-old scored just two goals in 22 appearances for MK Dons after leaving Crewe last summer. He bagged 20 league goals in 89 games for the Railwaymen, but had been something a journeyman prior to settling at Gresty Road. A former Chesterfield trainee, Bowery has previously had spells at Aston Villa, Rotherham United, Doncaster, Leyton Orient, Bradford City and Oxford United.
His most prolific spell was at the Kassam, where he netted seven times in 17 league outings during a loan spell. The lack of goals, plus the uninspiring stint with MK has led to supporters taking to Twitter, both to express their displeasure at his time at Stadium Mk and to give their concerns to Stags fans, as you’ll see below.

What? No pickup from the airport in the open top Bentley? No cringey video? Highly disappointing.
