Another day arrives and another name is in the frame for the Bolton Wanderers job; this time it is Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe.
Lowe has earned successive promotions with Bury and Plymouth and is now odds on with some bookies to go for three promotions with three different teams. Plymouth media claim there is no prospect at all of it happening, but other reports suggest that his name is right at the top of the frame.
The Liverpool-born striker played 171 times for Shrewsbury Town before embarking on a nomadic playing career that saw him represent the likes of Bury, Chester, Crewe, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and Tranmere. He finished his playing career with a third spell at Gigg Lane, taking over as caretaker boss twice before leading them to promotion last season.
Sadly, as we know, Bury were expelled from the league at the beginning of the season and by then, Lowe had already taken over at relegated Plymouth Argyle, signing a three-year deal. 12 month in and he’s already returned them to League One, but is now believed to be interesting the Trotters.
They are managerless following relegation out of League One, which led to the dismissal of Keith Hill and assistant boss David Flitcroft. Lowe isn’t the first name to be mentioned though; Sam Ricketts (Shrewsbury), Ian Evatt (Barrow) and former favourite Kevin Nolan have all been mentioned as possible successors to Hill.
Bolton and Plymouth fans have been reacting to the latest speculation on Twitter, with Pilgrims fans desperately hoping there is little more in this than bookies hype.
