Lincoln City have announced their retained list, with one name causing fans a great deal of concern.
The current situation in the game is causing clubs to shed players without truly knowing what the financial situation will be in a month or two, let alone next season. The Imps, who have survived in the third-tier for the first time since 1985, have been forced to let many of their title-winners of 2019 leave.
Michael Appleton’s side are releasing Charlie Andrew, Michael Bostwick, Neal Eardley, Lee Frecklington, Akeem Hinds, Jamie McCombe, Tom Pett, Jason Shackell, Alan Sheehan, Grant Smith and Josh Vickers. Ellis Chapman is the only player to be retained, the promising youngster is in talks with the club.
It is the impending departure of Michael Bostwick which has surprised fans. He joined in the summer of 2017 following promotion to the Football League and has been a key part of their drive up to League One, as well as the EFL Trophy win. The no-nonsense centre back won Player of the Year for the club in the title-winning season and is hugely popular with fans.
Whilst the decision is clearly impacted by the current financial situation across the EFL, that hasn’t stopped these fans expressing their upset as the popular 32-year-old leaves.
I expected this sadly. Finances have to come first though. Cue the moaners 'no ambition' etc.

A bigger mistake would be letting the club’s finances take toll and go into *another* financial crisis. Great players and people, but the club’s wellbeing has to come first, surely?

The only reason Bostwick Eardley and Vickers are going is due to the coronavirus nothing else I would guess.
We can't afford their wages with an empty stadium.
Maybe things will change if fans are allowed in when the new season starts and not January.— David Robson (@DavidImp1972) May 28, 2020
Bostwick going? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
