‘Time for a change, start watching the rugby instead’ – These disgruntled Newport fans react to the latest away defeat

Newport County AFC slumped to their sixth away defeat in a row last night with a 2-0 defeat at a resurgent Carlisle United.

The Exiles never recovered from going behind in the fifth minute to an Omari Patrick goal before Joshua Kayode secured the points with a thirty-third-minute penalty.

Newport’s misery was complete when referee Graham Salisbury showed Ryan Innis a straight red card just before the break following a rash challenge on Kayode.

The win moved the Cumbrians up to eighteenth place in League Two as head coach Chris Beech continues to slowly but surely improve their fortunes.

For Newport fans, it was another poor performance in a season that’s proving to be a massive disappointment after reaching the playoff final at Wembley last season.

Earlier in the season, Exiles boss Michael Flynn was linked with a move to League One Lincoln City, but his stock now appears to be falling after a poor campaign.

Once again, fans didn’t hold back when they took to social media with many feeling only the desperate plight of  Stevenage in the relegation place is saving the Exiles from a fight for survival.

Newport make the trip to Stevenage on Saturday, and plenty of fans feel Flynn should go if they fail to get a result. However, he remains popular amongst some supporters who feel he deserves time to rebuild a new team over the summer after his past achievements at Rodney Parade.

Here is a selection of responses to the result on Twitter.
