Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has demanded a response from his players after their weekend defeat at Coventry City, as reported by the club’s official site.
Matt Godden scored the only goal of the game in the second minute, denting Sunderland’s hopes of a return to the Championship. The Sky Blues went top of the league with the win, opening up a gap of six points between them and the Black Cats.
The former Bolton boss admitted his team lacked something at key moments during the encounter.
“I thought we gave our all but just lacked that little bit of composure at times in the heat of the battle,” he said.
“Some of our play and performances have been excellent, but on Sunday we weren’t quite on the ball as we have been. We have a very honest group of players and now it is about getting back to work this week and looking at things we can do better.”
They face Steve Evans’ Gillingham this week, a side who saw a 15-game unbeaten run brought to an end with a home defeat by Wimbledon, a game Sunderland fans will be hopeful of coming out on the right side of.
Despite their good run, these fans are not entirely happy with Parkinson or Sunderland, highlighting the high standards they have on Wearside at the moment.
You’ve had warning signs for 5-6 games now yet persist with Power, Gooch, Hume & Wyke
Beaten by 2 of the top sides , conceding early, struggling against Fleetwood, yet you still stick by bang average players, while Scowen,John,Lafferty,Semenyo are all decent replacements #WHY ?— ® Gorman Stewart ©️ (@1879SAFC) March 2, 2020
well parky you must change sumthing cause the past few games wkye , gooch , Hume and Dobson haven't been good enough fresh faces you brought in for a reason get them used

Agreed, the composure was lacking. How many times must PP shout compose yourself during training. I get really disappointed by pro footballers who don’t do what has been drummed into them for years.
