Oldham Athletic shrugged off their financial woes to comprehensively thrash Newport County this afternoon.
Former Fylde striker Danny Rowe scored the opener and added a third after the break, with Zachary Dearnley bagging in between. Thomas Hamer netted the fourth and Jonny Smith added the fifth and final effort. This came in a week where administration looms large after the club were served with a winding-up order.
Newport, who were play-off finalists in League Two last season, remain winless in their last seven league games, a situation which has seen them plummet into midtable.
“We were not good enough, second in every department and played off the park,” said Exiles manager Michael Flynn. “They could have scored eight, maybe nine if I’m honest so 5-0 was getting off lightly. The goals we conceded were dreadful.
“There’s one player that can come out of that performance with any credit and that’s Dale Gorman. He’s the only one. Other than that it was dreadful.”
Newport fans would certainly agree with Flynn, who was a target for Lincoln City earlier in the season. His stock has dropped dramatically and whilst he’s calling out his players this afternoon, fans are quick to point the finger of blame right back at him.
Despite being safe in the middle of the pack, their season is over and these supporters think a change is in order.
Thanks for the memories but enough is enough, been a poor season and getting worse time for a change surely

‘It’s a tough one to take, we will work hard in training and look to put it right next week, with a good run and a bit of luck, play offs are still achievable’
Says some member of the squad every bastard week.
