‘Like calling in the Grim Reaper’ – Plenty of fans react as Stevenage bring in former Grimsby man

It’s been all change at Stevenage, again, as they parted ways with manager Graham Westley on after a string of poor results.

Alex Revell took over as boss yesterday, with head coach Mark Sampson remaining at the club in his role as first-team coach. This comes as they sit seven points behind 23rd-placed Macclesfield in League Two. Today, they’ve also announced the arrival of former Grimsby boss Russell Slade as a ‘managerial consultant’.

Slade has managed over 800 games in the Football League, notably with Grimsby Town twice, Coventry City, Cardiff City and Leyton Orient. He’s also signed Revell as a player twice, during his spells with Orient and Cardiff.

“I have always respected Russ and it will be a great boost to be able to use his experience around the training ground and on matchdays,” Revell claimed.

He may well have respect for Slade, but his appointment has certainly piqued the interest of a number of supporters from other clubs, not least Grimsby Town. Despite being popular in his first spell with the club, he made a belligerent return after their promotion from the National League in 2015/16, almost taking them back down.

They’re certainly going to be watching on with interest, as you’ll see below.
