‘Ultimately fruit goes bad, and the Mellon has gone off’ – These Tranmere fans react to the latest disappointing home defeat

Tranmere Rovers slumped to their sixteenth defeat of a dreadful season last night as Doncaster Rovers ran out 3-0 winners at Prenton Park.

A second-half double from Jacob Ramsey and a goal from Fejiri Okenabirhie left Tranmere third from bottom of League One, six points from safety.

Although Andy Cook caused problems for the Doncaster defence in the first-half on his return to the club, in truth Micky Mellon’s men never looked like troubling the scorers in another lacklustre display.

After a meteoric rise which has seen back to back promotions, League One football looks like a bridge too far for the Super White Army. They have another tough game at the weekend when they host in-form Portsmouth, and unless there is a remarkable turnaround in form, relegation back to League Two is looking increasingly likely.

Many fans seemed resigned to this fate when they took to social media to react to the result while others feel the only way out of trouble is to sack their long-serving manager.

There is no doubt Micky Mellon remains a legend at the club for all he’s achieved during his spell on Birkenhead, but all that success now appears to be counting for nothing with plenty of fans who feel it is time for a change.

Here is a selection of Tranmere fans responses to the result on Twitter.
