Sunderland have signed Josh Scowen from Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
The midfielder is the Black Cats’ third signing of the January transfer window and he leaves Loftus Road having made twenty-three outings this season.
The twenty-six-year-old is an experienced campaigner with over three hundred senior appearances to his name, including a stint at Barnsley, who he helped to League One promotion in 2016.
Scowen began his career at Wycombe Wanderers, making over one hundred appearances for the Chairboys before moving to Barnsley.
He joined QPR in 2017 and has gone on to make one hundred and three appearances for the Hoops.
With a League One promotion on his CV and a wealth of Championship experience, Scowen was the subject of interest from several clubs, and Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson was pleased to get the deal over the line.
Speaking to the club’s official website he said: ‘I’m delighted to welcome Josh to the club. We identified him early in the window, and it took a while to get the deal over the line, as we were competing with several other clubs for his signature.’
‘We have been patient, and the chairman and the board have worked hard to finalise a deal this afternoon.’
Going by the reaction of QPR fans to the move on social media, it appears the signing could be quite the coup for the Black Cats. Many fans praised the midfielder’s attitude and work ethic, and most felt he would be an outstanding player at League One level.
Here is a small selection of QPR fans responses to the move on Twitter.
