Oldham poised to sign prolific non-league striker

Oldham Athletic are in advanced talks to sign prolific AFC Fylde striker Danny Rowe as reported by Football Insider.

The report claims the twenty-nine-year-old is in advanced talks with the Latics who look set to offer him the chance to fulfil his long-held ambition to play in the EFL.

The prolific forward is currently on the transfer list at the National League outfit after informing the club he would not sign a new contract in the summer.

Reports last week claimed League One Ipswich Town were interested in Fylde’s record goalscorer, who’s scored one hundred and eighty-two goals in two hundred and eighty-one games since arriving from Lincoln City in 2014.

Rowe’s career appeared to be drifting after a mediocre spell at Sincil Bank followed equally uninspiring stints at Stockport and Fleetwood, but his arrival at Mill Farm sparked him into life. He is the current National League Player of the Season, and he’s been crucial in Fylde’s rise through the leagues. Indeed, his twenty-seven goals last season helped guide the Coasters to within touching distance of the EFL before they lost to Salford City in the playoff final at Wembley.

The report claims Oldham boss Dino Maamria has identified Rowe as a key addition to bolster his attacking options and help fire the Latics up the League Two table.

Our View

Rowe is worth a punt and Oldham could do a lot worse than sign a player eager for a shot at the Football League.

The rumours are his attitude held back his undoubted talent at certain times in his career, but if Maamria can get the best out of him, Oldham’s goalscoring woes might well be over.
