Blackpool midfielder Jordan Thompson looks set to sign for Championship side Stoke City with a deal almost complete according to Football Insider.
Stoke are likely to announce the capture in the next twenty-four hours after successfully landing one of their top January targets, beating off competition from several Championship rivals.
Potters boss Michael O’Neill is a big admirer of the twenty-three-year-old after previously handing him his international debut for Northern Ireland.
The report claims Blackpool didn’t want to lose one of their star men, but with Thompson entering the final six months of his contract, they have reluctantly decided to cash-in now rather than risk losing the player for free in the summer.
Thompson has impressed since arriving at Bloomfield Road from Rangers inn 2018, making sixty-seven outings for the Seasiders. In his twenty appearances this season, he’s scored one goal and contributed two assists for Simon Grayson’s men whose League One campaign has faltered of late after being one of the early-season pacesetters.
Our View
Like the team, Thompson’s form has dipped recently after a bright start to the campaign.
On his day he is Championship class but those days have been fewer for Blackpool in recent months.
Stoke will be getting a good player if O’Neill can manage some consistency into his game and most Blackpool fans will be happy to get some money for a player who often flatters to deceive.
