‘Would be an unreal signing at this level’ – These Swindon fans react to the latest transfer speculation

League Two high-flyers Swindon Town have been heavily linked with a move for Sunderland striker Will Grigg as they look for a replacement leading scorer Eoin Doyle.

Doyle’s recall by Bradford was a big blow for the club and prompted a search for a new striker to fire them to League One.

One name that has emerged as a potential target is out of favour Sunderland striker Will Grigg.

Journalist Alan Nixon has regularly tweeted over the last twenty-four hours that Swindon are making a move for the forward with League Two rivals Salford also interested.

The twenty-nine-year-old has endured a nightmare spell on Wearside since signing from Wigan in a big-money deal almost a year ago. He’s managed only eight goals in forty-eight outings and recently found himself out of favour with Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson.

It would be a move that would undoubtedly raise a few eyebrows. However, Nixon, who is usually a reliable source of credible transfer rumours, is adamant Sunderland will not sanction a move to a League One rival, ruling out long-term admirers Blackpool, and leaving a drop to League Two a realistic option if the misfiring forward wishes to end his North East nightmare.

Many Swindon fans welcomed the news when they took to social media to react to the speculation — ignoring Grigg’s current poor form to predict a title win if the club manages to get a loan deal over the line for the Northern Ireland international who, according to Nixon, has a home just an hour away from Swindon.
