Bristol City winger and Sunderland transfer target Hakeeb Adelakun looks set to sign for Rotherham United in the next 48 hours, according to Sky Sports.
The report on Sky’s Live Transfer Centre yesterday evening suggests the 23-year-old is in talks with the Millers over a proposed loan move with a source at the club informing Sky the deal will be concluded in the next couple of days.
Adelakun, who signed for the Robins on a free transfer in 2018, has made only five appearances since joining from Scunthorpe United, where he scored twenty-goals in one hundred and sixty-nine outings.
Doncaster Rovers are also thought to be interested in Adelakun, who still has eighteen months left on his deal at Ashton Gate.
He’s yet to feature in Lee Johnson’s plans this season and is looking for a move away to get some regular game time.
In better news for the Black Cats, reports suggest they have had more success in their pursuit of another Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo having matched the Robins demands for a loan deal. Reports claim they are awaiting a decision from Johnson on Semenyo’s future and could also take Australian centre-half, Bailey Wright, for the rest of the season having agreed to pay the former Preston defenders wages in full.
It is going to be a busy month for Sunderland as Phil Parkinson looks to re-shape his under-performing squad.
Potentially losing Adelakun is a blow but not the end of the world if they get Wright and Semenyo.
However, both players have something to prove, and many fans will be hoping the strong rumours linking them to proven League One goalscorer Liam Boyce come to fruition.
The current speculation also points to the Sunderland careers of McNulty and Grigg coming to an end.
