Everton defender Callum Connolly has left Lincoln City and immediately been loaned out to fellow League One side Fleetwood Town.
The former England Under 20 World Cup winner joined the Imps under former manager Danny Cowley, making his debut in the 2-0 win against Fleetwood earlier in the season. He’s since struggled for game time under new manager Michael Appleton, enjoying a run in the team only when Cian Bolger.
Connolly, who can play across the back or in midfield, played 15 matches for Lincoln in all competitions, starting 12. He’s previously had had loan spells in the Championship with Wigan Athletic, Ipswich and Bolton Wanderers.
He’s only appeared once for Everton’s senior side, back in 2016, and needs regular football to make them sit up and take notice of his talents. He joins Joey Barton’s side as they sit in seventh place in League One and he could make his Cod Army debut at Burton Albion on Saturday.
It’s fair to say that reaction to his departure from Everton fans has been muted, as you’ll see below.
