Peterborough United are keeping tabs on Ipswich Town’s Kayden Jackson, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Posh, who have lost four games on the spin including elimination from the FA Cup this weekend, may have to brace themselves for a bid or two for Ivan Toney, with Jackson reported to be the replacement should they get a bid they cannot refuse.
Jackson, who cost Ipswich around £1m from Accrington under Paul Hurst, has bagged seven goals in 23 outings this season and has struggled for form since making the move to Portman Road.
The 25-year-old scored 16 times for Stanley as they won League Two in 2017/18, but has registered just 11 goals in 65 outings for the Tractor Boys. He’s previously played for Swindon Supermarine, Tamworth, Wrexham and Grimsby Town.
His last goal for the Tractor Boys came in the 3-1 win against struggling Southend back at the end of October.
Our View
I’m not sure Mr Nixon is on the ball here. Jackson doesn’t fit the mould of a Posh target at all.
They usually go for proven scorers from lower down, or players dropping out of the higher divisions who can offer increased value. Jackson might have been on their list before, but his recent form hasn’t been spectacular at all.
Also, would Ipswich consider selling a first team player to a promotion rival? This smells a bit of silly season to us. or, perhaps more pertinently, it smells of Sun newspaper fiction.
