Portsmouth survived an FA Cup scare at Fratton Park this afternoon, narrowly beating National League North side Altrincham 2-1.
The pressure has eased a little on Kenny Jackett recently after an upturn in results have seen Pompey move to within touching distance of the top six, but another uninspiring display from a strong XI has left fans feeling jaded once more.
Ben Close gave them a second-half lead, but they were pinned back in the 83rd minute when Josh Hancock bagged a penalty for the visitors. That set up a tense final ten, but deep into stoppage time talisman striker Brett Pitman pitched up with a winner.
Whilst Pompey will be in the hat for the third round this Monday, the performance has left fans wondering if Jackett should still step aside, despite the decent run of results. Scraping past a side who are 16th in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football, has not impressed these supporters.
