With the opening of the transfer window only weeks away, speculation over the future of players is starting to emerge, and according to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, in-form Fleetwood Town midfielder Kyle Dempsey could be in line for a move to the Championship.

O’Rourke tweeted on Friday a host of second-tier clubs were set to watch Dempsey at the weekend in Fleetwood’s 2-1 League One victory over Tranmere Rovers and now D3D4Football.com have followed this up by naming Huddersfield Town as one of the clubs keeping tabs on the twenty-four-year-old.
It would be a sensational return to West Yorkshire for Dempsey who spent two years with the Terriers after joining in 2015. He failed to establish himself at the John Smith’s Stadium after arriving for £290,000 from Carlisle, making only ten league starts. After an initial season-long loan spell, he signed for the Cod Army on a three-year deal in the summer of 2017.
His future under Joey Barton appeared to be in doubt last season after he fell out of favour with the Fleetwood boss and ended up on-loan with League One rivals Peterborough United in the second half of the campaign.
However, he returned to the Fylde coast invigorated, and he’s become a vital member of a Fleetwood side that currently sits seventh in the table since getting his chance in the team in September.
Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley is being tipped for a busy January as he looks to build on a promising start to his stint with Huddersfield, but D3D4Football.com claim he is likely to face competition for Dempsey from Championship rivals Derby County and Swansea City.
Our View
Dempsey is in a rich vein of form but is he Championship Class?
We have our doubts, and he would probably be a risky signing for any Championship club wishing to take a punt on the midfielder.
We also have our doubts whether Barton would now be in a rush to sell in January with his side firmly in the League One playoff frame.
