Sunderland’s Luke O’Nien was delighted with his goal in their recent 1-0 win against Southend United, so much so he’s tweeted out a short video of it for the fans to watch again.
It was a much more compact and resolute Southend side that turned up at the Stadium of Light and the former Wycombe man’s goal in the 20th minute was the only one of a tepid encounter.
What a goal it was though; a cross in from the left by a rejuvenated Denver Hume saw O’Nien launch a diving header from 12-yards to beat Bishop in the Shrimpers’ goal. The win kept the Black Cats in touch with the league leaders, one point outside the top six with a game in hand on three of the teams above them.
O’Nien is having a solid season and is a firm fan favourite on Wearside. It was his third goal of the campaign, having netted a winner against MK Dons and one in the 5-0 rout of Tranmere.
Whilst he’s happy to share his goal on social media, one fan had to poke a bit of fun at home for still going on about it! others were, understandably, quick to praise the versatile player on his continued good form.
You still banging on about that goal…. I'll tell you what mate! So would I!! Get in there!!
