‘Didn’t get a proper chance’, ‘Hate your football’ – These MK Dons fans react as club sack Paul Tisdale

MK Dons last night parted company with manager Paul Tisdale after being beaten 3-1 at home by Tranmere Rovers.

The Dons, promoted in third place from League Two last season, have been on a terrible run of form that’s seen them win just once in 11 matches, that against Fulham’s Under 21 side in the EFL Trophy.

As they slipped into the bottom three, switching places with AFC Wimbledon, chairman Pete Winkelman made the decision, saying: “I’d like to place on record my appreciation of what Paul was able to achieve for us, winning promotion from Sky Bet League Two at the first attempt and leaving us in a better position than when he found it.”

Assistant Manager Matt Oakley and coaches Danny Butterfield and Mel Gwinnett will also leave Stadium MK.

The statement also said: “The Club would like to thank Paul, Matt, Danny and Mel for their dedication, commitment and tireless work ethic. They brought success back to Stadium MK in 2018/19 and, for that, the Club will always be grateful. Everyone at MK Dons wishes them every success in the future.”

Sacking isn’t something Tisdale is used too, establishing himself as the longest-serving manager in the Football League whilst at Exeter, but the Dons woeful start to the season has seen them become the third side to fire their manager for form reasons after Southend and Sunderland. Both Lincoln City and Wimbledon have changed theirs, but for different reasons.

MK Dons fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter, with opinion divided over whether this was the best course of action.
