Rushian Hepburn-Murphy bagged a hat trick for Tranmere yesterday as they brushed aside a poor MK Dons side at Stadium MK.
The result earned Paul Tisdale and his staff the sack, but that shouldn’t be the focus of the news after an outstanding display from the on-loan Aston Villa man. Hepburn-Murphy spent time at Cambridge last season and although he looked okay, he didn’t set the world alight.
His tenure at Tranmere had been much the same up until his trio of goals yesterday. Clearly delighted, he took to Twitter to express his joy, prompting a glut of responses.
The win lifts Tranmere up to 18th and with a game in hand over Lincoln and Gillingham a win could lift them to 16th. That would be a good turnaround after a horrible start to the season in which they struggled for goals and chances.
Their young on-loan star might be the key to keeping their good run going; they’ve arguably got a weaker squad than last season and are just another of the promoted teams currently struggling to adjust to life in the division.
However, Hepburn-Murphy might be a bright spark set to ignite a run of form and, if he is, these fans of both Aston Villa and Tranmere will doubtless be behind him. Some Villans even think they should be bringing the youngster back into the fold as an extra option in their attack.
Can we recall him ? UTV!

You showed today why a Premiership club rate you highly, and the first showing for us Tranmere fans of what your all about. Well done mate, truly outstanding finishing and quality. It's obvious now why our outstanding manager Micky brought you here in the first place. Brilliant!
