Portsmouth look set to recall Adam May from his loan spell at League Two outfit Swindon Town as reported by Portsmouth News.
The midfielder signed a season-long loan with the Robins in the summer in the hope of finding regular first-team football, but he’s made just eleven appearances of which only four have been starts. Swindon boss Richie Wellens has also failed to pick him in each of the Robins’ last four matchday squads, prompting Pompey boss Kenny Jackett to muse that he may recall the youngster in January.
Speaking to the local paper, Jackett said: ‘There is a recall option, but we’ll see. It’s not a discussion we’ve had with Adam or Swindon yet.’
‘All I’ve said to Adam is that you have to train hard to get back into the team.’
‘When he gets his chance, he has to take it.’
‘For him, he has to persevere.’
‘We’ll assess it towards the end of December and see from there.’
‘Of course, it’s disappointing for him and for us that he’s not in the 18.’
The midfielder has made thirty appearances for Pompey having worked his way through the club’s youth system.
His move to Swindon came after a frustrating season last term when he featured only five times in Jackett’s side, all arriving in cup competitions. He was an unused substitute in the Checkatrade Trophy final win over Sunderland and spent the first half of the season on-loan in the National League at Aldershot where he made twelve outings scoring three goals.
It is now approaching crunch time for the twenty-one-year-old, who has struggled to make his mark in the face of stiff competition for midfield places at the County Ground, with his current deal at Fratton Park set to expire at the end of the season.
Our View
Swindon fans have not been impressed with May and agree with Wellens not picking him.
He’s been given chances at Swindon but not taken them, with his effort and commitment often questioned by the Robins faithful.
With his contract at Portsmouth in its final year, he needs to start producing, or he could well be a free agent in the summer.

Yes flattered to deceive..was a liability when played .. sorry Adam but it didn’t work for us.
