‘Done nothing since season started’ – These Sunderland fans blast player ahead of Tranmere clash

Sunderland will be without the services of winger Aiden McGeady, who picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign during the weekend defeat against Wycombe.

The 33-year-old played a pivotal role in getting the Black Cats into the top six last season, but has struggled to settle this time out. He’s been dogged by the injury that he picked up against Accrington last season, exasperated by Jack Ross playing him despite him having the broken foot.

He’s only recently made a comeback to first-team action but is now ruled out once more and won’t feature in tonight’s fixture against struggling Tranmere Rovers.

“Aiden picked up his fifth booking so will miss tomorrow night’s game,” Manager Phil Parkinson told the club’s official website.

“That’s obviously a blow for us because he is a key player and he produced some real moments of quality at the weekend.”

The game is Parkinson’s first in charge of the Mackems and he’ll be hoping to get three points on the board to arrest a worrying slide. Back-to-back league defeats against Wycombe Wanderers and Lincoln City perhaps mark an all-time low in Sunderland’s domestic history, but to go down to struggling Tranmere at home would compound their misery.

It would seem that losing McGeady is a big blow. The Republic of Ireland winger was their Player of the Year last season and 14 goals in 40 matches, but if reaction on social media is anything to go by he may not be the player they need right now.
