Southend United chairman Ron Martin is unshakeable in his belief the Shrimpers will not go down this season as reported by the Southend Echo.
The Blues head to Tranmere Rovers tomorrow night still without a permanent manager and having taken just four points from their opening twelve League One games of the season.
Yet despite this sorry state of affairs, Martin was sure the Shrimpers would retain their status in the third tier this season. The report quotes snippets from Martin’s recent interview on Talksport in which he said: ‘The fans will have different views on this, but we will not go down.’
‘I think this team is good enough. Yes we do need someone at the helm, and we do need leadership, but there’s no dissent in the camp.’
Martin also confirmed that caretaker boss Gary Waddock would not be given the job permanently because he felt the club needed to go in a different direction and insisted getting the right man for the situation would not happen ‘overnight.’
Southend have been without a boss since they sacked Kevin Bond over a month ago and the controversial chairman’s recent attempt to lure Celtic legend Henrik Larsson to Roots Hall collapsed at the final hour earlier this week.
His comments did not go down well with Blues fans when they took to social media to respond to the article, with many supporters feeling their chairman is quite frankly delusional, and relegation is a certainty.’
