Former Rangers striker takes a swipe at his old club following recent move to League One strugglers

Former Rangers striker Joe Dodoo has revealed his reasons for leaving the Glasgow giants and signing for League One strugglers Bolton Wanderers and insists the move was not a step-down.

Dodoo recently signed for Bolton on a deal until the end of the season after the expiry of his contract at Rangers. He made only five league starts for the Gers in a disappointing three-year spell after arriving at Ibrox from Leicester City in 2016.

While Rangers currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership, Bolton are propping up League One without a win this season on minus eight points following their descent into administration at the end of last season, yet the twenty-four-year-old is adamant the move was not a setback to his career. Speaking to the Bolton News, the forward said: ‘I think a lot of people forget the size of this club (Bolton).’

‘If you rewind a year and the club is in the Championship, we’re not sat here.’

‘Bolton are a big club, and I don’t see this as any sort of step down. It’s easy to ignore what goes on behind closed doors, but it’s my career, and it’s not easy when you are not playing games, or you haven’t got the right manager or the right team.’

Former Rangers boss Mark Warburton originally signed Doodo who fell out of favour when Steven Gerrard took the managerial reins, and he was sent out on loan to Blackpool last season where he scored two goals in eighteen outings.

Not satisfied with questioning the relative status of the two clubs he also appeared to criticise the environment at his former employers. He said: ‘I’d rather be somewhere that I can achieve something with people who want to make me achieve, an environment that I benefit from.’

“I feel like I have that here at Bolton. I have enjoyed what I have seen so far, and I want more.’

Our View

Dodoo should do his talking on the pitch, in our opinion.

He didn’t cut it at Rangers and taking a swipe at his old club is unwarranted.

It is time for him to move on and prove his worth for a Bolton side who are desperate for goals.

The striker does have talent, but it is now time for him to stop talking and prove it.
