Bolton Wanderers youngster Ronan Darcy is attracting interest from Premier League side Leicester City, as reported by The Sun.
the 18-year-old has played six times for the trotters this season as they’ve been forced to turn to youth in their quest for League One points. That’s given him some vital exposure to senior football and at the same time, alerted scouts to his potential.
He bagged his first goal for Bolton as they went down 5-2 to Rochdale in the EFL Cup, but hasn’t appeared since Keith Hill’s first game in charge. He’s an attacking midfielder and has fallen behind the likes of Dennis Politic and on-loan Thibaud Verlinden.
That’s not to say he didn’t impress during his foray into the senior squad though. He looks to have a bright future in the game and the Premier League side are clearly impressed with what they’ve seen.
They have a good record of plucking talent from the lower leagues, having seen James Maddison and Jamie Vardy come from Norwich and Fleetwood.
They’ve also got a good record at developing younger players, with Ben Chilwell and Harvey Barnes both coming out of the academy to play regularly for the Foxes.
Our View
It’s a shame some of the younger Bolton players have now fallen out of favour again. They showed real character and fight in those early stages, with the achievement of drawing 0-0 with Coventry very understated at the time.
They do need some experience in the squad though which is bad news for Darcy. However, if his stint in the starting XI does lead to a move to a big academy, then he’ll not only earn the Trotters a few quid, but will have set himself up for an exciting career.
