Fresh injury concerns emerge for Blackpool

Blackpool will be without the services of striker Nathan Delfouneso who has picked up a hamstring injury, as revealed by the clubs official website.

The 28-year-old former Aston Villa man has been in good form this season, scoring twice as his side have pushed on towards the top of the table. He kept his first team place despite the summer arrivals of Joe Nuttall and Ryan Hardie.

To have him missing for several weeks is going to be a big blow, although not one that the squad will struggle to cope with.

Manager Simon Grayson revealed that he feels sorry for Delfouneso.

“You’ve got to feel sorry for the lad because he’s been very unlucky. It’s not the same injury that he picked up at Gillingham, it’s in a different area.”

“He was stretched off enough and good. He turned in a certain direction and it just meant that he felt his hamstring and is going to be ruled out for a couple of weeks now.”

The forward had only returned to the first team this weekend, where his side were beaten 3-2 by Coventry City in an early promotion six-pointer.

The Tangerines host MK Dons this weekend looking to keep themselves in the top six, before a tricky trip to in-form Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.

Our View

This isn’t a serious blow to Blackpool; it might even facilitate a change in first team personnel which remains in place once he back fit.

Joe Nuttall and Ryan Hardie are both hungry to partner Armand Gnanduillet and a spell out for DelFouneso will give them their chance.

Both have bagged in cup action recently and whoever gets the nod is more than capable of doing the same in League One.

It could be very bad timing for the former Villa striker to be out, with two hungry replacements raring to go.
