‘Lincoln legends’ – Ipswich coach and former Imp comments on Cowley exit

Ipswich Town coach Jimmy Walker has commented on the departure of Danny and Nicky Cowley from Sincil Bank to take over at Huddersfield Town, describing the ambitious brothers as ‘Lincoln Legends.’

The affable former Lincoln City goalkeeping coach made the statement most Lincoln fans would agree with via a congratulatory tweet on his social media account after the move was finally confirmed yesterday following a few days of fevered speculation.

Walker spent two years as part of the Cowley’s backroom staff and was a feature in the dugout when the Imps won the National League title, progressed to the last eight of the FA Cup and won the Checkatrade Trophy in the club’s historic first-ever Wembley appearance.

The former West ham keeper and Walsall legend said he was happy to have played a small part in an ‘unbelievable few years’ for the Imps.

Walker left Lincoln to take up a similar position at Sunderland in the summer of 2018 before joining Paul Lambert at Portman Road a few months later having played under the Town boss at Colchester United.

The Cowley’s can be rather intense, and you got the feeling Walker often relieved some of the stress in the dressing room with his jokey nature and quick wit.

He is also an excellent goalkeeping coach and his role in the Imps rise should not be underestimated.

He will rightly get a good reception when he returns to Sincil Bank with Ipswich in December.
