Newport County’s on-loan defender Ryan Inniss could be facing a lengthy ban after he was sent off for allegedly biting an opponent last night.
The Exiles had a thoroughly miserable evening at Rodney Parade, getting off to a terrible start as they went one down to West Ham Under 21’s inside a minute.
They battled back though and by half time the game looked secure. They led 4-1 and were well in control of their Premier League 2 opponents. However, the Hammers came out fighting and won a remarkable game 5-4, with a brace inside the final ten minutes.
To make matters worse, Inniss was dismissed in injury time, something Michael Flynn has been led to believe was for a bite.
“Their player said he got bitten so I’ll have a look at that and find out what happened,” Exiles boss Michael Flynn told the South Wales Argus after the game.
“If he has done that, it’s inexcusable and I won’t be fighting his corner for it.”
Inniss has been on several EFL loan spells now without breaking into the Crystal Palace side. he’s been with Southend, Colchester and Dundee and was making only his second appearance of the season for the Exiles.
Our View
If he’s bitten, he needs to be punished. It’s the sort of offence you want to see dealt with by a long ban, something the acts as a deterrent.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Inniss was never to play for Newport again. Flynn didn’t sound happy in his post-match interview and rightly so.
It reflects badly on the club, especially in a game against an Under 21 side. What must Crystal Palace be thinking of the 24-year-old?
