‘Did we just accidentally leave him behind?’ – These Everton fans react as 21-y/o makes EFL switch

Lincoln City have added Everton’s England Under 21 international Callum Connolly to their ranks on a season-long loan.

The two sides played out an exciting EFL Cup clash last night, which the Toffees won 4-2, but the relationship between the clubs is strong, resulting in the loan.

Last night was the third time they’ve met of late; Everton Under 21s played there in the EFL Trophy in 2017/18, before the Imps visited Goodison in last year’s FA Cup. On top of that, Lincoln chairman Clive Nates is also an Everton fan and was attracted to Sincil Bank after the clubs had a short linkup in the early 2000s.

Connolly was a World Cup winner with England Under 20s, as well as having won the Toulon Tournament with the Under 21 team.

Last season he made 33 Championship outings for Bolton and Wigan during loan spells, and has 84 appearances at the level in his career after also being with Ipswich Town.

He’s made just one Premier League outing for Marco Silva’s side and will be hoping regular football paves a way for him back into their first-team picture.

Despite the good relationship between the two teams, one or two Everton fans are not entirely happy that the club are helping out last night’s opponents, as you’ll see below.
