Grimsby Town secured a fine 5-2 victory against Port Vale this afternoon to lift themselves into the early top seven in League Two.
Elliot Whitehouse was one of three former Lincoln City players to bag a goal, only it went in the wrong net to give the visitors an early lead. Jordan Cook levelled in the first half to send the two sides in on equal terms at the break.
Moses Ogbu out the Mariners 2-1 up early in the second period before Matt Green added a third. Nathan Smith pulled one back in a thrilling encounter, setting up a tense finale.
With ten minutes to go, Luke Waterfall grabbed his first goal in black and white, before James Hanson bagged to give the result a convincing feel.
It gave them a first league win of the season at Blundell Park and got their fans excited for the future. With Matt Green and James Hanson clearly firing on all cylinders, Waterfall commanding at the back and exciting depth across the side, they feel it might be their year for a top seven challenge.

Great result today and great start to the season. But more impressive is the volume of goals created and scored. The season is looking very good for @officialgtfc #gtfc
