Bolton Wanderers have confirmed they have reluctantly agreed to accept the resignation of manager Phil Parkinson and his assistant Steve Parkin.
News broke last night that Parkinson had resigned and the club confirmed their acceptance in a statement on their official website this morning.
It is the lastest blow for the Trotters who have been in administration since May. They were deducted twelve points at the start of the season, and amid struggles to raise a team in the absence of senior players they unilaterally postponed their League One fixture with Doncaster on Tuesday night citing concerns over the welfare of young players who’d been asked to step up to the first team to fulfil their fixtures.
The protracted takeover by Football Ventures appears to be no closer to completion, and Parkinson leaves after three years in charge. He guided Bolton to League One promotion in his first season and then managed to preserve their Championship status the following year.
As the ownership of Ken Anderson disintegrated last season, Parkinson was unable to prevent relegation back to League One and started the present campaign with only a handful of contracted players.
Given the intolerable circumstances, his departure is probably no surprise and supporters soon took to Twitter to vent their anger and frustration at a situation that is putting the future of one of the founder members of the Football League at risk.
The administrators and Football Ventures came in for much criticism, but many fans wished ‘Parky” all the best.
