Tranmere Rovers plot swoop for exciting Liverpool prospect

Tranmere Rovers are eyeing a loan move for Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis, according to Football Insider.

The Prenton Park outfit got their season up and running at the weekend with a 5-0 win against crisis-club Bolton Wanderers, but manager Mickey Mellon is keen on adding to his squad as they move towards the transfer window.

19-year-old Lewis is a highly-rated left-sided player who could be seen as cover for current left back Andy Robertson. He’s represented England up to Under 20 level and is a valued part of the Liverpool squad.

He’s a regular for their under 23 side and according to the club’s official site, he regularly trains with the first team squad at Melwood. He has yet to make his competitive first-team debut for Liverpool, but he played for them in pre-season.

Tranmere usually operate a flat 4-4-2 formation, with Liam Ridehalgh at left back and Corey Blackett-Taylor ahead of him this weekend on the flank. Lewis would almost certainly be challenging for one of those positions if he were to make the switch.

Our View

This would be a huge coup for Tranmere if they pulled it off. Lewis is highly-rated at Liverpool and one paper even speculated that he could get close to the first team this season.

If he goes out on loan, he has to play. That is likely to be a stipulation of any move to Tranmere. We saw something similar when Ryan Kent left Liverpool for Bristol City.

The big decision is whether to commit to that or not.
