Ipswich Town are looking to bolster their defensive ranks with a move for Colchester United full-back Kane Vincent-Young as reported by the East Anglian Daily Times.
The versatile defender signed a new two year deal with the League Two outfit last summer after spending time on trial with Town, then managed by Paul Hurst, who decided against offering him a contract. He’s racked up over one hundred senior appearances for John McGreal’s men since emerging through their successful academy which he joined in 2014 following his release by Spurs.
Ipswich boss Paul Lambert is looking to add some depth to his squad, and the twenty-three-year-old can play in both full-back positions as well as in a more advanced role.
According to the report, Championship sides Luton and Charlton were both interested in Vincent-Young, but a move never materialised before the Championship transfer window closed last week leaving the Tractor Boys in pole position to make a move for the talented defender.
Our View
A good signing for Lambert, Vincent-Young will give some depth and versatility to his squad.
Ipswich need to make a bid for promotion this season, and young, hungry players who are used to life in the lower leagues will be essential if they are to quickly become accustomed to the challenges outside English football’s top two divisions.
Vincent-Young is a talented player who will see the move as a step up, one in our view; he is more than capable of making.
