Coventry City join race to sign highly-rated Liverpool midfielder

Coventry City have joined the race to sign highly-rated Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane as reported by the Portsmouth News.

The attacking midfielder enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Doncaster Rovers last season making thirty-eight League One appearances for Rovers, scoring four goals.

The twenty-year-old has been tipped for big things at Anfield and signed a new contract with the Reds last year. The Premier League giants are keen to loan out the youngster once again in a bid to aid his ongoing development, and it was thought he might end up with a loan to a Championship club with reports suggesting his old boss at Doncaster Grant McCann keen to take him to his new club Hull City.

However, a move never materialised before the closing of the Championship transfer window last week, and although Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett has been monitoring the situation for some time, according to the report, Coventry City are now also interested as they look to bolster their midfield ranks following the sale of Tom Bayliss to Preston North End for £2 million.

Our View

Kane is a fantastic talent, and it is no surprise there are a lot of suitors for his services.

He was tremendous for Doncaster last season, and Coventry are desperate for some creativity in midfield as they look to mount a playoff challenge.

If Robins beats Jackett in the race for his signature, it will no doubt soften the blow in missing out on long term target Bright Enobakhare last week.
