Blackpool enter talks that could see club legend return

It’s hard to cement a legend at a club in under 100 outings, but that’s exactly what Charlie Adam did at Blackpool when his goals helped them into the Premier League in 2010.

He could now be set for a shock return to the Tangerines after discussions started between the two parties, as reported by Alan Nixon.

Adam is currently a free agent after having been released by Stoke City and appeared in the crowd as Blackpool played Fylde earlier in the week. Manager Simon Grayson played down links back then, but it appears as though things are now advancing.

The 33-year-old scored 34 goals in 98 appearances for the Seasiders before a move to Liverpool. He didn’t impress at Anfield and later swapped to Stoke City, where he racked up 21 goals in 179 outings.

Last season he found himself on the fringes of the setup there, playing just 12 times in the Championship before departing at the end of the season. he has had a trial with Blackburn Rovers, but that didn’t result in a contract.

Our View

Blackpool fans would be delighted to see this happen and it’s seemingly the summer for big returns after George Boyd joined Peterborough.

We’re not so sure Adam would be as effective as the first time around and him signing could leave Blackpool short of legs in midfield, especially if he’s paired with Jay Spearing.

It’s a move that could be born out of sentiment rather than actual benefit, but then again the extra bums on seats it might lead to could be worth it. It’s a tough one to call.
