Aston Villa’s Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is set to sign for Tranmere Rovers, according to Football Insider.
It’s reported that Villa see the 20-year-old’s interests as best served with another loan spell, with League One a positive influence on Andre Green last season.
Hepburn-Murphy spent the latter part of the 2018/19 campaign with Cambridge United in League Two, getting valuable experience but struggling to help fire them up the table.
Tranmere were promoted from the same level via the play-offs and now seem set to add him to their ranks for the coming season as they look to replace the goals of James Norwood.
Hepburn-Murphy has been capped by England from Under 16 level right up to Under 20 and has 15 senior appearances to his name for Villa, who were promoted back to the Premier League last season.
That elevation in level will mean fewer opportunities for their academy graduate, leading to the loan spell.
Our View
Tranmere fans will be rubbing their hands with glee; Hepburn-Murphy is a real talent who needs senior games to kick on.
He did well at Cambridge, the goals didn’t flow but he certainly impressed in terms of attitude and application. Having seen first team action and been around a dressing room playing regular football, the Under 23 scene will be a step down for him.
Tranmere will be looking to consolidate on their return to the third-tier after a five-year absence and the energy of the England under 20 man will be a big addition to their arsenal.
