Stevenage sign Leeds United defender

Stevenage have signed Leeds United defender Tyler Denton for an undisclosed fee.

Denton was at Elland Road from the age of six and emerged through the Leeds academy to make three senior appearances in 2016/17.

The full-back spent the first half of 2017/18 on loan at Port Vale making twenty-one outings for the Valiants. Last season the twenty-three-year-old was loaned to League One Peterborough United for the whole campaign and made fourteen appearances across all competitions for the Posh.

The attacking left-back had a year left on his contract at the Yorkshire giants, but with it being unlikely he would feature in boss Marcelo Bielsa’s plans Leeds came to an agreement with Denton to allow him to leave and kick start his career at a new club.

Our View

Fair play to Denton for making a move, he could have sat out the final year of his contract at Elland Road but chose instead to go in search of first-team football.

He could thrive under Dino Maamria at Stevenage who may well be pushing for a playoff place come the end of the season.

Denton is quick with an excellent left foot and could be an outstanding League Two player given consistent game time.

Many Leeds fans are disappointed Denton didn’t get more of a chance at the club.

We believe this is an excellent signing for Stevenage.
