Coventry City eye move for 22-goal forward

Coventry City are keen on a move for Nottingham Forest striker Tyler Walker, as reported by Coventry Live.

The 22-year-old spent time out on loan with Mansfield Town last season, scoring 22 goals as they finished fourth in League Two. Sadly for him, he missed the penalty in the play-off semi-final that cost the Stags their place at Wembley.

Walker has previously been on loan with Bolton, Stevenage, Burton Albion and Port Vale and is the son of former England striker Des Walker. He’s been capped up to England Under 20 level too.

He’s played 38 times for Forest’s first team, scoring six goals, but appears to be set for another season out on loan, albeit at League One level. Mark Robins is hunting a striker, with Conor Chaplin the subject of interest from Barnsley.

He’s also in the market for Wolves forward Bright Enobakhare, a player he’s lodged a £600,000 bid for.

The Sky Blues finished just outside the play-offs last season and face the prospect of playing home matches at Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s Stadium this season after failing to agree on an extension on their deal with Wasps to remain at the Ricoh.

Our View

Walker is an exciting talent and he has to be playing regularly to continue his development. There would be no gain for him in an Under 23 setup so soon after playing a full season for Mansfield.

He showed a great amount of awareness, pace and clinical finishing last season, but whether he can do that on a bigger stage remains to be seen. A move to the Sky Blues would present him with a level of football he’s yet to convince he’s up to.
