Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady has been linked with a move to the MLS this morning by Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
It’s believed a number of clubs in America are interested in taking the Republic of Ireland attacker after an impressive season for the Black Cats.
He came back from injury at the start of the season and impressed in League One. whilst many of the club’s other big earners were keen to depart, he showed the right attitude towards the club and fans, as did Bryan Oviedo.
However, he is still one of the club’s highest earners and with a takeover or investment taking much longer than anticipated, the cutbacks have already started. Lee Cattermole has left the club and as Nixon states, a move to the States for McGeady would save the club significant money.
The former Everton, Celtic and Spartak Moscow man scored 11 times in 35 league outings last season, adding five assists and was a key player once he returned to the side.
That’s reflected in the responses to today’s news, with fans concerned where a departure might leave them as a squad.
