Sunderland’s takeover is in serious trouble of collapsing as prospective owner Mark Campbell reportedly now wants to pay less for the club, as reported by Alan Nixon.
The British-based businessman is spearheading a takeover at present, with current owner Stewart Donald willing to step aside and sell a controlling stake. It had been close to completion a couple of weeks ago, but recently experienced small delays with little news coming out of the club as to why.
It’s now believed that Campbell’s group wants to pay less, meaning that a deal is unlikely to be struck in the near future. That’s not good news for their supporters, who understand that they’re unlikely to make new signings if the takeover is not completed.
They’re already thought to be missing out on two targets as a direct result of the snag, with no light at the end of the tunnel.
Donald has been in charge at the Stadium of Light since April 2018, but has looked to bring in a new owner to help fund a push back to the Championship after last season’s double Wembley heartbreak.
Supporters haven’t flooded Twitter with panic though; one or two believe that they’re entitled to take a report from a Sun journalist with a pinch of salt. That is until Donald himself, an active social media user, makes a comment.
Didnt stew literally say last night it doesnt have to happen this window, bit for future if we go up then yes. Also didnt he say it might happe this window, but might not, he can fund club in L1 fine.

34 days till the season, other teams done plenty business whereas our squad is weaker so yeah I'm slightly concerned. It's ok the owner saying we need 6/8 players in but no sign of 1 yet.Dimi Konstantopolous won't solve last season's problems

I thought it was an investment and not actually a takeover?

Stands to reason that you would want to pay less for L1 club. In theory this would provide additional resource for player investment. Of course current owners would lose out but they would still make a healthy profit. Sounds good.
