A local Yorkshire based journalist has dismissed the speculation linking Steve Evans link with the vacant Doncaster Rovers managerial position.
Evans was an even-money favourite for a move back to Yorkshire with some betting markets over the weekend.
This is despite Evans only just taking the reigns at League One rivals Gillingham. The former Rotherham United boss has yet to take charge of a game for the Kent outfit following his appointment in mid-May.
However, Sheffield Star deputy head of sport Liam Hoden has tweeted there is ‘absolutely nothing in’ speculation linking Evans to the job and that ‘no conversations between the two parties’ had taken place.
Been asked a few questions about Steve Evans suddenly becoming an even money favourite for the Rovers job. Absolutely nothing in it. No conversations between the two parties. Calm down #drfc

Rovers recently laid out their plans to stick to the same recruitment framework that saw the hirings of McCann and his predecessor Darren Ferguson, but it is thought they will break from the structure and hold talks with stand-out candidates who have shown an interest in the job.
The Sheffield Star then confirmed the tweet reporting that any movement in the markets was not the result of any talks between Evans and the club
Another link with the position was also dismissed at the weekend with former Rovers midfielder and current Swindon manager Richie Wellens, ruling himself out of the reckoning saying he owes loyalty to Robins chairman Lee Power and the club’s supporters.
Our View
It would appear that there is nothing to see hear and that once again, volatile betting markets often bear little or no reflection to what is going on behind the scenes.
We are not saying it still might not happen, nothing is surprising in football, but it appears Evans is likely to be staying in Kent.
Indeed, a man who divides opinion amongst supporters, one thing is clear; Evans is never too far away from the headlines.

Nigel adkins should be rovers new manager
We need a manager with successful experience of League 1 and Championship football, the ability to improve players skills, a good tactical mind and the ability to look at developing young players. Get those four qualities right you have got success. Any manager with those qualities will not come cheap.
Evans would be an awful appointment – a sort of Trump/Johnson footballing equivalent, always quick to blame everyone but himself when things go wrong. Darren Moore for me.
