Doncaster Rovers have been left hunting a new manager after losing Grant McCann to Championship side Hull City.
The Tigers side had been without a manager since Nigel Adkins failed to agree a new contract, and they’ve turned to the former Peterborough boss after he guided Rovers to sixth in League One.
McCann is clearly delighted to be making the short move across toe KCom Stadium, saying;Â “To be in the Championship is the next step for me, and I’m pleased to be taking that step with a great club like Hull City,”
McCann’s assistant Cliff Byrne, has also agreed to move to the Championship, with Rovers getting a compensation package for their former management duo.
Hull vice-chairman Ehab Allam made an official approach for the former Scunthorpe player on Thursday, bagging his man less than 24-hours later.
“Grant has been a standout candidate with a playing style and philosophy aligned to that of the club,” he said.
Former Doncaster midfielder Richie Wellens and former Oxford manager Michael Appleton are amongst the front-runners for the Doncaster role. Darren Moore, David Flitcroft, Sol Campbell and Simon Grayson are also in the running.Â
Supporters have been quick to judge McCann, as you’ll see below.
So much for not want player who didn't want to be at @drfc_official seems the manager didn't either #loyalty

Bet Reece James is chuffed to bits what a snake McCann is not a Donny fan but that's stinks to high heaven.

Too slow @drfc_official can still follow due process but real urgency required #drfc #rtid

Let’s just call it a straight swap and appoint Adkins immediately. #drfc

Do as I say not as I do, won't be getting a good reception from me after all his rhetoric this past couple of weeks.

Surely Donny want another young, hungry manager. Wouldn't be surprised if the likes of David Healy who has done a great job @OfficialBlues is on their radar . #linfield #Donny

For me it would have to be @DarrenMooro out of those readily available. Knows Doncaster and would play the right way too

The club is going backwards, killing the fan base and far from growing it!
I will keep supporting regardless!— Chris Howarth (@Chris_D_Howarth) June 21, 2019

He said he was building his own team that would get us in the Championship and wanted players that would give there all for Doncaster. Why did he not give it a go this season.
Worried, players now manage wanting away,we have a budget I understand that, but from were I am have the directors got any ambition,do they want success or are they happy to be a decent league one club?.
Only time will tell ,I like a lot of fans will still support our local team but I feel the support of the loyal fans should be backed up with the directors showing the same passion and be seen to be pushing the team forward,at the moment ther seems to be to many backward and negative steps being taken,RTID.
Both parties desperate for success could an unhappy end meet!!
Rovers will kick on regardless ….with someone who can last the journey 🙂
We’ve lost some good players because of macanns pay parity wonder if he will implement it at hull and see how many players leave
I won’t parity!!!!! I won’t the Hull job I don’t wish him well I hope he falls flat on his face. Owners wake up show some content if you won’ are club to compete.
Adkins immediately!!!!! NO NO NO NO hasbeen
I’m an Barnsley fan I like donny knew McCann walk out on ur feathering own nest better without him get john Sheridan he get ur up
Barnsley Daz I agree Sheridan would be good for Rovers!
Marosi money Mason should not have been sacked, Andrew money, Downing money Butler money, Rowe money, Marquis is going Manderville not given a chance. and with the help of Wright Anderson Whiteman Copps, Blair, + another Herbie & Malic we would be in the championship in 9 month time.
Please not Sol Campbell. He wants to be a Tory MP. I wouldn’t want him using our club to practice their ideology.
does McCann know Rafa has jacked in at Newcastle
