Doncaster Rovers have opened talks with Arsenal over a loan move for midfielder Ben Sheaf as reported by Football Insider.
The report claims a football Insider source at the Gunners has told them the two clubs are in negotiations over a loan move to the Keepmoat Stadium for the versatile midfielder, who is also comfortable playing in defence.
According to the report, Arsenal are willing to consent to the temporary move of their academy product as he is some way off staking a claim for a first-team place.
Sheaf has made only two senior appearances for the North London giants, spending much of his recent time at the Emirates in the under-23’s. He did enjoy a loan spell at Stevenage in 2017/18, making ten League Two appearances for the Hertfordshire outfit and the report suggests he is looking to taste EFL action once again to help with his development.
Sheaf made the switch to Arsenal from West Ham’s academy in 2014 and is highly thought of at the club.
He has also represented England at under-16 and Uner-18 Level.
Our View
One of those signings that could be a masterstroke and Doncaster do have an excellent recent record on astute loan captures.
Sheaf has talent and pedigree, but he is going nowhere at Arsenal, and at twenty-one, he needs to play.
Doncaster will give him a platform to showcase his talents, and with the right attitude, the move could kick start his career and help Doncaster push for promotion back to the Championship.
