‘True legend of the sport’ – These fans react as 40-year-old signs a new deal at Morecambe

Forty-year-old Kevin Ellison has signed a new one-year contract at Morecambe to ensure his twenty-first season as a professional footballer

Ellison was one of two forty-year-olds to make an appearance in the Football League last season with the other being Crawley Town midfielder Dannie Bulman who is twenty-three days older than the Morecambe forward.

The much-travelled veteran scored seven goals in forty-nine appearances for the Shrimps last season as they finished seventeenth in League Two.

Ellison characteristically announced the news on Twitter where he has created quite a following with his light-hearted fan interaction.

The popular player also recently received widespread respect for going public about his mental health issues and with eleven previous clubs to his name it was no surprise that supporters soon took to social media to comment on the news and Ellison’s incredible achievement.

Here is a selection of responses on Twitter by football fans and some fellow professionals to the news that the big forward with the sweet left foot will once again be giving League Two defences and supporters a hard time next season.
