Journalist Mike McGrath has suggested this evening that Peterborough United have had bids accepted for Frankie Kent and Sammy Szmodics in an ambitious double-swoop.
The Colchester United pair were part of the side that missed out on a play-off spot on the final day of the season, despite destroying Champions Lincoln City 3-0 at Sincil Bank.
Szmodics has been catching the eye for a couple of seasons now, he’s a rampaging attacking midfielder who is calm in possession, but can conjure up goals and assists when called upon.
He has been linked with moves to Bristol City and Derby, but the Sun journalist is of the impression that the pair are bound for Peterborough in League One.
It’s not beyond the realms of possibility, Posh have got a track record of bringing players out of the basement division and developing them, but having spent seven figures on Mo Eisa, they’d surely need the same amount again for this double swoop.
Fans have been reacting on Twitter, with the source being called into question. One supporter asked Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony to confirm or deny, to which he got the first reply on our Twitter round-up.
