Coventry City defender Jak Hickman is in hot water after a foul-mouthed rant in which he appeared to insult his club.
The 20-year-old is seen in a two-minute video ranting about his wealth and saying ‘f*** Cov’ whilst apparently on holiday. It’s obviously enraged supporters and the youngster has been forced into a humbling apology.
The defender only has two appearances for the Sky Blues, both in the EFL Trophy, and spent much of last season out on loan in the National League North with Hereford. Despite his modest career so far, he made bold claims in the video in which he looked decidedly worse for wear.
It’s hardly surprising that supporters have reacted furiously. Whilst their club is in tatters off the field, Mark Robins has fostered a great team spirit to keep them moving in the right direction on it.
Hickman’s vile video insulted that hard work as well as their fans and their dedication to the cause during the tough times. They’re quite clear on what they expect to see next; his resignation. In this instance, it seems an apology is not going to be enough.
Across his two posts, almost 500 people replied, a huge amount for a League One club. Such is the anger the youngster has brought no himself.
Real EFL Word: It’s easy to be holier than thou in this instance and as youngsters, we all had a rant at our workplace. However, in the age of camera phones you have to be so careful, whether you’re Paul from Poundland or Jak from Coventry City. The supporters deserved better and this young man might just have blown his career.
