Bradford City manager Gary Bowyer is close to making his fourth summer signing as reported by the Telegraph & Argus.
While the report mentioned no names, Bowyer did give a hint as to the sort of player he was looking at when discussing with the local paper how tough he feels League Two will be next season.
Commenting on the physical nature of the recent League Two play-off final at Wembley Bowyer said:
I watched the play-off final between Newport and Tranmere and that game showed how physical we can expect it to be.’
‘You’re going to have to be able to compete, simple as that, and we’re just trying to identify the right ones we feel will do that.’
The Bantams boss has recently played down speculation linking the club to the return of two former heroes to Valley Parade in striker James Hanson and goalkeeper Colin Doyle.
Bowyer has also admitted he was monitoring the situation of centre-forward Mark Cullen, recently released by Blackpool and that he was interested in another newly released player he had worked with before in Plymouth’s central defender Ryan Edwards.
Our View
Bowyer has quickly identified the need to add more steel to a squad the meekly surrendered its League One status in 2018/19.
He knows what it takes to get out of League Two, and the sort of players linked with Bradford would certainly add competitiveness and leadership to the dressing room.
With a new signing close, Bantams fans can rest assured that whoever is holding the scarf aloft will be set on giving their all in the Bantams bid for an immediate return to League One next season.
