Shrewsbury reject several Posh bids for 26-year-old amid Championship interest

Shrewsbury Town have rejected multiple bids from Peterborough United for midfielder Oliver Norburn according to a report by Football Insider.

The report claims Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has made the twenty-six-year-old a top summer target and has seen two bids of around £400,000 rejected by the Shrews.

Norburn was signed by Salop’s previous manager John Askey from Tranmere last summer on a three-year deal and quickly established himself in League One, making forty-nine appearances in all competitions, netting eleven times and contributing five assists.

It is form that has impressed clubs other than Posh, with several Championship outfits said to be monitoring the situation by the report which claims Shrewsbury are keen to hang on to their star midfielder but are bracing themselves for further bids.

A Peterborough source has told Football Insider that despite making six new signings already this summer, Posh are keen to add Norburn to their burgeoning squad.

Our View

Peterborough United look intent on spending big this summer in a determined attempt to get back to the Championship.

It could all end in yet more tears, but they are definitely looking at quality and Norburn would add quality to their midfield.

Shrewsbury will not want to sell him, but if the money gets much higher, they might not be able to resist.

There does now seem to be a significant financial gap opening between the top five or six clubs and the rest in League One, which is a worry for the competitiveness of the football.

Not only that but Posh fans will be hoping its owners continue to back their managers and that the spending is sustainable.
