Exeter City’s side look close to breaking up with a couple of their big names out of contract and looking for a move.
It’s been revealed by Devon Live this morning that Christy Pym, the former England Under 20 stopper, is interesting Championship side Barnsley.
Pym is out of contract after making 142 appearances for Exeter during his career. The last three years have brought two play-off finals, both of which ended in defeat, as well as a play-off assault this campaign which fell away on the final day.
Pym is now without a new deal and along with Hiram Boateng, looks likely to leave the club on a free transfer. Freshly-relegated Ipswich were thought to be in the hunt, but its now emerged that Barnsley are also in contention.
They finished second in League One and can offer the 24-year-old regular football in the second tier, with their first choice stopper Adam Davies thought to be moving on in the summer.
Our View
This isn’t a surprise at all. Pym is a superb keeper with lots to offer at a higher level, but has stuck by Exeter hoping they’d be promoted.
They’re no longer able to match his ambition and a move away is almost certain.
Barnsley are a good destination for the keeper, especially if Davies moves on. Anyone with worries about whether he can step up need not bother either. he’ll make the jump with ease.
