Freddie Ladapo apparently ‘ruled himself out’ of the clash with Barnsley this weekend, as reported by Plymouth manager Derek Adams on the club’s official site.
Only, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Within minutes Ladapo had taken to his own Twitter account to rebuke the suggestion that he wasn’t fit to play. He seems to claim the opposite, suggesting that he was fit and was simply not selected.
Whatever the situation, Plymouth clearly missed their goal threat as they were beaten twice over Easter, firstly by Gillingham and then Barnsley. The second loss was perhaps forgivable, but the Gills were relegation fodder themsevles prior to that win.
26-year-old Ladapo came through the ranks at Colchester, enjoying a series of loan spells in the local non-league scene before surprisingly earning a contract with Premier League Crystal Palace.
He had a goalless spell with Southend before joining Plymouth, but has excelled this season with 18 goals in 47 outings. However, with the current controversy raging around his fitness, it might be he doesn’t add to that tally.
A selection of fans on Twitter seem to think that perhaps the latest developments signal a breakdown in communication between manager and playing squad, which has prompted some to call for Derek Adams to go.
Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter at the moment.
